LA VERBENA DE LA PALOMA

LA VERBENA DE LA PALOMA is a zarzuela theater production based on the original work of the lyric sainete by Tomás Bretón, written in 1894 and premiered at the Teatro Apolo in Madrid. This version, directed by José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, is a modern adaptation that includes a prologue written by Álvaro Tato titled Adiós, Apolo, which leads to a performance that combines musical fragments and scenes from other titles in tribute to the lyrical genre. The production also pays homage to historic zarzuela interpreters, such as Borja Quiza and Carmen Romeu, in the roles of Julián and Susana, the Señá Rita interpreted by Milagros Martín, and the Don Hilarión portrayed by Antoni Comas. The work is presented as a tribute to the vanished Teatro de Apolo.
